A $30,000 grant announced today by the Member for Northern Victoria Region, Candy Broad will enable four north-east municipalities to promote the region as a great place in which to live, work and invest.

In Benalla today, Ms Broad said the grant to Benalla Rural City Council and the shires of Mansfield, Mitchell and Murrindindi under the Brumby Labor Government’s Provincial Economic Partnership (PEP) program would build on previously successful initiatives that have helped to promote the local lifestyle and employment opportunities available in north-east Victoria.

“The Government’s Make It Happen in Provincial Victoria marketing campaign aims to attract people from Melbourne to Provincial Victoria, and this project will enable the municipalities of Benalla, Mansfield, Murrindindi and Mitchell to continue working together under the banner of the Goulburn River & Ranges Region to promote and profile the region,” Ms Broad said.

“The group of councils has already completed a number of successful collaborative marketing campaigns, and this project will build on and broaden the approach to include several new promotional opportunities and initiatives.”

This year, the four councils will again pool funds to ensure better efficiencies of scale in promoting the region to identified markets, through four key specific initiatives:

  • Using the tree change Website created by the Council in 2007 as a marketing tool and primary call to action www.victoriantreechange.com.au;
  • Advertorial in identified signature ‘treechange’ publications;
  • DVD/web downloadable prospectus; and
  • A Visiting Journalist Program.

Ms Broad said the four initiatives would deliver the municipalities common objectives - to attract investment and improve community amenity through sustainable development.

“The he aim of the project is to increase awareness of the Goulburn River and Ranges Region, encourage new investment, and promote the region’s lifestyle benefits,” Ms Broad said.

“The Provincial Economic Partnership (PEP) program is a key part of the Government’s Make It Happen in Provincial Victoria marketing campaign, which aims to encourage Melbournians to consider making the move to Provincial Victoria.

“The aim of the Make it Happen campaign is to raise the awareness among Melbournians of the lifestyle, employment and investment opportunities in provincial Victoria.

“The Make it Happen in Provincial Victoria initiatives – to inspire people to live, work and invest in provincial Victoria and to equip local councils to capitalise on the resultant interest – will create a prosperous and growing rural and regional Victoria.

“The campaign continues to be very successful in raising the awareness of lifestyle, employment and business opportunities in Provincial Victoria.”
