St Arnaud Student Honoured At Premier’s VCE Awards

A local student in St Arnaud had his academic achievements honoured at the Premier’s VCE Awards ceremony at the new Melbourne Convention Centre today.

Victorian Premier John Brumby presented commemorative medals and awards to the state’s top All-Round VCE High Achievers who gained study scores of 46 or higher in at least five VCE studies in 2007 and 2008. 

William Freeman from St Arnaud Secondary College received an award in the subject of Furnishing.

State Member for Northern Victoria Region, Candy Broad today congratulated William on his wonderful effort and said he should feel extremely proud of his success.

William is among 308 students who received awards from guest presenters including media personality Eddie McGuire, well-known chef Shannon Bennett, Neighbours actor Jane Hall, Environmental Geographer and Sustainability Strategist Rob Gell and Surgical Oncologist at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre Professor Robert Thomas.

Awards were presented in the following categories:  18 Top All-Round VCE High Achievers, Best Three International Students, Best 10 Students in English, Best 10 Students in Mathematics, Languages other than English and Best Five Students in Other VCE studies.

Forty-three awards went to Catholic schools, 97 to Government schools, 171 to Independent schools and six awards to other education providers.

“I’d like to extend my personal congratulations to all these students who have achieved such fine results,” Ms Broad.

“These students have shown an impressive drive and dedication to achieving excellence.

“It is encouraging to know these students have shown that they are more than capable of excelling in their chosen fields and I wish them every success in their future endeavours.”
