The Eildon Kindergarten will receive $10,000 in extra funding from the Brumby Labor Government to help with extra expenses after February’s devastating bushfires, Member for Northern Victoria Region, Candy Broad said today.
Ms Broad said the grant will help with expenses including additional staffing needs and take into account the impact the bushfires have had on the kinder’s fundraising.
“The Brumby Labor Government is continuing to stand up for bushfire-affected families and communities and support them as they recover,” she said.
“Ensuring children can return to their routine of attending the happy and nurturing environment they have at their kinder is an essential part of this recovery process.
“Experts tell us it is important for children to return to a sense of routine as soon as possible, instilling normalcy and helping children feel safe.”
Ms Broad said the funding was in addition to grants already given to the Flowerdale, Kinglake and Marysville kindergartens that were destroyed and the provision of free kindergarten for four-year-old children of bushfire-affected families.
“Ensuring local children can continue their early years’ education at kindergarten is exactly the kind of support we need to move forward from the bushfires,” [s/he] said.
“By providing necessary community services like kindergartens, the Brumby Labor Government is helping local families get on with their lives and reinvigorate communities.”
