Posted
6 August 2009

$4.5 million in new funding from the Victorian Government Sustainability Fund will be used to assist Victorian households limit their greenhouse gas emissions, according to Candy Broad, Member for Northern Victoria Region.

“The 2009 Climate Change and Victorian Households Funding Round is another way the Brumby Labor Government is taking action to address the difficult issue of climate change and ensure a sustainable future for all Victorians,” Ms Broad said.

”Community groups, local government, non-government organisations and businesses are encouraged to apply for funding.

“The residential sector contributes to 21 per cent of Victoria’s energy use. This has a significant impact on climate change and it is vital we reduce emissions in this sector.

"The recipients of these grants will deliver innovative yet practical and affordable solutions to tackle climate change and help ordinary Victorian households make a difference by reducing their environmental impact.”

Applications for the 2009 Climate Change and Victorian Households Funding Round are being sought in two categories:

  • $3.5 million will be available for sustainable solutions that directly assist Victorian households to address climate change;
  • $1 million will be available for capacity building in community organisations and local government to assist low income Victorian households address climate change.

The Brumby Labor Government’s Sustainability Fund, managed by Sustainability Victoria, has completed three grant rounds and allocated $22 million to 95 applicants for innovative sustainability projects.

This round of funding is part of a range of initiatives supported by the Sustainability Fund aimed at helping households cut their use of resources and increase Victoria’s resilience to climate change.
