Three Visitor Information Centres in Alpine Shire will be upgraded with the help of a $109,500 Brumby Labor Government grant announced today in Bright by the Member for Northern Victoria Region, Candy Broad.
Ms Broad said the funding would support upgrades of the Bright, Mt Beauty and Myrtleford visitor information centres.
“The remodelled centres will provide visitors with current and consistent information on attractions, activities and events, accommodation, food and wine and town facilities and businesses,” Ms Broad said.
The works at each centre include:
- Bright – refurbished entrance, expo areas and multi media meeting area, new display cabinets, digital display screens and IT equipment, Alpine Tourism branding, wall map, refurbished toilets and improved disabled access;
- Mt Beauty - new display cabinets, digital display screens and IT equipment, Alpine Tourism branding; and
- Myrtleford - new display cabinets, digital display screens and IT equipment, Alpine Tourism branding.
Ms Broad said a cinema room with video conferencing facilities would also be installed in the Bright VIC for businesses to participate in industry forums, training, meetings and seminars.
She said the Brumby Labor Government was supporting the project because it would help grow tourism in Alpine Shire.
“The installation of new IT equipment will increase Alpine shire’s tourism exposure to state, interstate and international markets,” Ms Broad said.
“The provision of real-time 24-hour tourism information, marketing and booking services will also encourage tourists to enjoy the region’s many attractions, including its fabulous wine and food experiences.
“The works will provide employment for 12 local contractors and all materials and IT equipment and service will be sourced from businesses located within the Alpine Shire.”
Ms Broad said funding for the $146,000 project would be provided through the Brumby Labor Government’s Small Towns Development Fund to Alpine Shire Council, which is contributing $36,500.
“This project typifies initiatives supported by the Small Towns Development Fund, which are making a big difference to towns in provincial Victoria,” Ms Broad said.
“The Small Towns Development Fund is helping Victoria’s smaller towns create jobs, drive economic growth and improve community infrastructure.
“So far, the Fund has contributed in excess of $42.9 million to 442 announced capital works projects throughout rural and regional Victoria with a total value estimated to be more than $92.2 million,” Ms Broad said.
