$10,000 For Mitchell Shire Bushfire Buy Local Campaign

Posted
14 September 2009

A campaign to encourage businesses, organisations and individuals in and around the Mitchell Shire to shop locally was launched today in Wandong by the Member for Northern Victoria Region, Candy Broad with the support of a $10,000 Brumby Labor Government grant.

The February Victorian bushfires devastated 78 communities and thousands of farms and businesses and local traders were affected, including many in the Mitchell Shire.

The Brumby Labor Government responded immediately with a $51Million business assistance package to help small business and farmers to recover.

“I congratulate Mitchell Shire Council for coming up with the Buy Local campaign to encourage people to shop locally and help the bushfire recovery effort”, Ms Broad said.

Ms Broad joined with Mitchell Shire Council to thank local businesses across the Shire who have supported communities during the bushfires.

“Families in large and small towns across Mitchell Shire can support local businesses in return by shopping locally,” Ms Broad said.

Buy Local posters and balloons and bright yellow re-usable shopping bags are being provided to businesses who will distribute the bags to customers from Friday 18 September.
