Outstanding volunteers will be recognised in the inaugural Premier’s Community Volunteering Awards.
Member for Northern Victoria Region, Candy Broad MP said that nominations were now open for the 2009 Awards and encouraged Northern Victorians residents to nominate individuals or groups that have made a real difference to their communities.
“Strong families need strong communities, which is why the Brumby Labor Government wants to supporting the vital work of volunteers through these awards,” Ms Broad said.
“Volunteerism is alive and well in Northern Victoria and these awards celebrate and acknowledge the contribution that not-for-profit groups, organisations and their members make towards building even stronger communities.
“The valuable contribution of volunteers does not go unnoticed and the Premier’s Community Volunteering Award will help encourage those who are using some really innovative methods to encourage more people to get involved in their community.
“If you know, or are part of, a community organisation in [suburb] that has done amazing things, this is the opportunity for them to be recognised and celebrated for their commitment to helping others.
“From those who have helped out in times of crisis to everyday acts of generosity, every volunteer is valued.”
Ms Broad said the categories were:
- Community Volunteering Achievement Award
- Community Volunteering Innovation Award
- Community Volunteering Leadership Award
- Young People’s Community Participation Award
“Every winner will receive a $5000 prize to help their organisation continue its important work,” Ms Broad said.
“The awards are open to all not-for-profit groups and organisations that offer opportunities for people to become involved in volunteering, as well as individuals who provide leadership in volunteering organisations.
“It’s our way of saying ‘thank you’ to those that are helping their fellow Victorians.”
