A project to encourage more travellers to stop in Leitchville is being supported with a $250,000 Brumby Labor Government grant announced today by the Member for Northern Victoria Region, Candy Broad.
In Leitchville today, Ms Broad said the project will see the development of the area to encourage travellers through the town to stop and enjoy Leitchville’s charms.
“The project will beautify the main street and enhance Leitchville by encouraging more travellers to stop in the town and spend their money in local shops,” Ms Broad said.
“Beautifying the town will make it more attractive and liveable for its residents and help increase community pride.”
The project includes:
- Creating rest-room facilities;
- Developing car and caravan parking next to the town swimming pool;
- Developing a dual kiosk and information centre for visitors;
- Building a BBQ and pergola area within the pool grounds;
- Planting shade trees throughout the area, including plantings in the main street and
- Providing tourist information and town directional signage.
Ms Broad said the major objective of the project was to improve one of the town’s major pieces of social infrastructure.
Ms Broad said funding for the $338,000 project would be provided through the Brumby Labor Government’s Small Towns Development Fund to Gannawarra Shire Council, which is contributing $85,000 with the balance to be provided in-kind.
“This project typifies initiatives supported by the Small Towns Development Fund, which are making a big difference to towns in provincial Victoria,” Ms Broad said.
“The Small Towns Development Fund is helping Victoria’s smaller towns create jobs, drive economic growth and improve community infrastructure.
“So far, the Fund has contributed in excess of $48.1 million to 471 announced capital works projects throughout rural and regional Victoria with a total value estimated to be more than $93.6 million,” Ms Broad said.
