Young people from the Kerang and Cohuna areas will now have the chance to showcase their musical creativity and talent over the next two years thanks to funding provided through the $4 million FReeZA program.
Member for Northern Victoria Region, Candy Broad is excited with the news that Northern District Community Health Service has received a grant of $19,450 to provide opportunities for local young people in the Kerang and Cohuna areas to lead, deliver and participate in music and cultural events for other young people in their community through the Victorian Government’s FReeZA program.
“FReeZA events are a great way for our community to come together and enjoy each others company, talents and creativity” Ms Broad said.
“It is especially exciting that young people from the Kerang and Cohuna districts will have the chance to take the lead, participate and contribute to our community life through music and culture and I encourage all young people to take advantage of the opportunity and the experience.”
Through the FReeZA grants, Northern District Community Health Service will provide a range of alcohol, smoke and drug-free events throughout 2010 – 2011.
“The success of the FReeZA program has created an environment for youth participation and engagement as well as community connectedness. It can also provide an initial snapshot for young people on the ‘workings’ of the music industry and enable them to continue their interest in music through the state-wide FReeZA Battle of the Bands competition,” Ms Broad said.
A specific requirement of the FReeZA grants is the inclusion of young people in all aspects of organising FReeZA events, including selecting and booking bands, negotiating agreements, promoting events, managing venues, budgeting and administration.
“The FReeZA program provides great opportunities for young people to showcase their musical talents. Young people will also have terrific opportunities for individual skill development through dedicated youth development and training activities in the 2010-2011 program.”
“This is always an exciting program and I look forward to seeing more great music and cultural events happening over the next two years.”
