Medical Equipment Boost For Regional Health Services

Posted
26 January 2010

Regional and rural hospitals across Victoria will be boosted by $9.4 million in Victorian Government funding for state-of-the-art medical equipment.

The Premier John Brumby today announced that 41 regional and rural health services would share in the extra funding for vital health technology, including incubators, cardiac monitors, digital x-ray units and operating tables.

“Our Government is taking action to ensure all Victorians have access to a world-class health system because we want Victorian families to get the treatment and care they deserve,” Mr Brumby said.

“We know that high-quality health services are crucial to the liveability of our regions and that’s why we are committed to delivering the latest state-of-the-art equipment for regional and rural patients.

“As part of this $9.4 million boost, hospitals across Victoria will be able to replace important equipment with the latest state-of-the-art medical technology, whether its defibrillators, image intensifiers, sterilisers or ECG machines.

“This will ensure they stay at the forefront of new technology and are equipped to continue to provide the best possible care and treatment for patients and provide it sooner.

“This funding is vital to provide essential equipment for important medical procedures and patient care.

“We know we’ve got the best doctors, nurses and other health professionals in the world, and this gives them the very best equipment to continue their excellent work.”

The $9.4 million boost includes:

  • Ballarat Health Service will receive $662,000 for an ultrasound, three incubators, a telemetry monitoring system, an operating table, two transport monitors and six electric beds;
  • Bendigo Health will receive $177,243 for nine defibrillators and an upgraded telemetry monitoring system;
  • Barwon Health will receive $2.3 million for a cardiac angiography system and a vascular angiography system; and
  • Latrobe Regional Health will receive $383,220 for a ventilator, an ultrasound and four anaesthetic machines.
