Industry and Trade Minister Jacinta Allan is inviting Victorian manufacturers to nominate outstanding performers for the 2010 Victorian Manufacturing Hall of Fame.

Visiting Greater Dandenong today, Ms Allan said the Victorian Manufacturing Hall of Fame acknowledged the groundbreaking achievements of Victoria’s world class manufacturing sector.

“Now in its ninth year, the Victorian Manufacturing Hall of Fame provides an ideal platform to showcase the excellence that continually elevates Victoria to the next level of manufacturing,” Ms Allan said.

“The awards include excellence in manufacturing, the industry-nominated young manufacturer of the year, and lifetime achievement by individuals who have made outstanding contributions to sustained manufacturing excellence.”

Ms Allan said since the hall of fame’s inception in 2001, 96 companies, 19 honour roll recipients, two lifetime members and six outstanding young manufacturers had been inducted.

“The hall of fame represents Victoria’s depth of talent across sectors including aeronautical, automotive, printing, textiles, health, chemicals, food, packaging, recycling and marine,” she said.

She said this year’s inductees would be announced during a ceremony later this year.

Ms Allan today visited JDN Monocrane in Dandenong, a manufacturer of cranes that will be nominated by local industry group South East Melbourne Manufacturers Alliance for its innovation, use of new technology and outstanding efforts to secure exports.

“Greater Dandenong is a significant manufacturing hub in the south east region and if JDN Monocrane is successful then it would be the twelfth company from Greater Dandenong to be inducted,” Ms Allan said.

Ms Allan said the Victorian manufacturing industry injected $29.5 billion into the economy annually and accounted for exports of $7.7 billion.

“It is Victoria’s largest provider of full-time jobs, employing around 294,900 people,” she said.

“The Brumby Labor Government is committed to supporting the Victorian manufacturing sector, and through the Manufacturing Action Plan, is helping manufacturers to develop the skills and specialist capabilities and adopt the new technology required to tap into global markets,” she said.

Nominations close on 28 February 2010 and can be made by industry associations or individual companies.
