The Rudd Labor Government has delivered on its 2007 election commitment to provide a new Early Learning and Child Care Centre for the Eaglehawk and Long Gully districts, Bendigo Federal MP Steve Gibbons said today.
He said the new centre will be established at the Comet Hill Primary School site and will offer at least 50 new child care places and quality learning services for the Eaglehawk and Long Gully community.
“It will be integrated with the existing long day care facility at the Eaglehawk Community House and Children’s Services Centre”.
“The Rudd Government is providing $1.6 million towards establishing the $2.3 million centre through the new Early Learning and Care Centre initiative”.
“The Victorian Government is also contributing $500 000 and the City of Greater Bendigo Council is providing $200 000 to establish the centre”.
“The Rudd Government is committed to providing high quality, affordable and easily accessible early learning and care services to all Australian families.”
“The new centre will support working families within the community and will offer a range of important services, like long day care, occasional care, play groups and maternal and child health services, to help give the children of Eaglehawk and Long Gully the best possible start in life.”
“This is part of the Australian Government’s Education Revolution that will ensure Australia’s early childhood care and education system is well placed to improve outcomes for children and their families,” Mr Gibbons said.
“The Eaglehawk and Long Gully centre is one of 11 new Early Learning and Care Centres being established in Victoria, part of the Rudd Government’s $114.5 million investment to establish 38 priority Early Learning and Care Centres by 2010”.
