The Koondrook RSL Sub Branch has been refurbished thanks to a $30,000 Brumby Labor Government grant.
Member for Northern Victoria, Candy Broad MLC, today officially opened the refurbished premises, which is now safer, more comfortable and more accessible to the local community thanks to the installation of a new ramp, hot water unit and split system air conditioning, new electrical wiring and other structural upgrades.
“The Brumby Labor Government is standing up for Victoria’s veteran community by investing in the long-term sustainability of ex-service organisations so they can continue to provide support and assistance to veterans and their families,” Ms Broad said.
“RSL’s are particularly important to the veteran community and this refurbishment project will not only help preserve veteran’s heritage but will make these facilities safer and more accessible for local veterans and the wider Koondrook community.”
Mr Broad said community facilities like the local RSL play a central role in supporting the social fabric of communities.
“The Brumby Labor Government is taking action to create strong and resilient communities in regional Victoria by ensuring these communities have the facilities that they need for meetings, events and socialising,” she said.
“The Koondrook RSL is used by many residents of the local area for community meetings, and by the Dart Club and dance and art groups.
“Helping the Koondrook community upgrade their RSL is a demonstration of our Government’s commitment to supporting both veterans and regional communities.”
The Koondrook RSL upgrade project was part of $1.8 million Brumby Labor Government program to help the RSL State Branch renovate and upgrade 20 RSLs across Victoria.
Investment from this program will extend the functional life of buildings and revitalise facilities so they can be used by the whole community into the future.
