Children in East Wodonga are enjoying a better start in life with the opening of the $1.6 million Belgrade Avenue Children’s Centre.
The redevelopment was great for young families in the area said the Member for Northern Victoria Region, Candy Broad, who officially opened the Centre today,
“This project has seen two ageing stand-alone buildings redeveloped to provide a great facility that can offer a wide range of services in one location for East Wodonga families,” Ms Broad said.
The Brumby Labor Government contributed $300,000 towards the centre while the City of Wodonga provided $1.3 million.
“The Brumby Labor Government is supporting councils to integrate and enhance their early childhood services so Victorian children can enjoy better health and educational outcomes,” Ms Broad said.
“The centre now consists of two children’s rooms, a maternal and child health room, consulting rooms and a commercial kitchen.
“When children receive high quality early childhood services, it increases their chances of a better transition to school with improved social and learning outcomes later in life.
“Integrated children’s centres are part of the Brumby Labor Government’s commitment to ensuring Victorian children are given the best possible start in life.”
“The Belgrade Avenue Children’s Centre will cater to Wodonga’s growing population.
“Last year the City of Wodonga was home to 479 four-year-old children and that number is expected to increase by 20 per cent over the next 15 years.
“This facility will help meet the needs of families now and in the future.”
Since 2003 the Brumby Labor Government has committed over $47 million towards the establishment of 98 integrated children’s centres.
