Pavement Works Start At Wangaratta Station

Posted
24 March 2010

Member for Northern Victoria Region, Candy Broad MP, today welcomed the start of pavement rehabilitation works to improve access into the Wangaratta railway station.

Ms Broad said the station is a key transport hub for the area and the works to the station entrance and exit would help to ensure it is well placed to cope with increased activity into the future.

“The Wangaratta railway station is a busy transport centre. This $600,000 project, managed by VicTrack, on behalf of the Brumby Labor Government, will help to ensure that the station is equipped to meet the increased demand,” Ms Broad said.

“These works complement the jointly-funded state and federal North East Rail Revitalisation project and a variety of other improvement initiatives.”

The project involves asphalting and kerb works to upgrade the entry and exit pavements to the station, internal station roadway and shared pathway, along with the reinstatement of subsurface drainage.

VicTrack has liaised with the Wangaratta Rural City Council to minimise disruption for train and bus passengers.  During works, V/Line passengers will be able to utilise on-street parking and access V/Line coach services on Norton Street.

Project completion is expected by the end of June 2010.

The Wangaratta railway station works are part of The Brumby Labor Government’s $1.97 million 2009-2010 Country Station Upgrade program, developed to improve V/Line stations across Victoria.

“Previous work at the station includes the $100,000 upgrade to the station’s rest room facilities in 2008,” Ms Broad said.

VicTrack is a Government rail business that adds value to Government assets, primarily state rail land and infrastructure through transport oriented projects.
