There is still time for your community to enter this year’s Keep Australia Beautiful Victoria Awards – but you will need to hurry as the Awards are closing soon.
Member for Northern Victoria Region, Candy Broad said the Keep Australia Beautiful Victoria Awards opened on Australia Day with three award categories – two categories are closing on March 19th (Sustainable Cities and Clean Beaches) while Tidy Towns is closing on April 9th.
“I urge all Victorians who are considering entering the Awards to apply before it’s too late,” Ms Broad said.
“This is a celebration and recognition of the positive everyday actions taken by all Victorians to protect and enhance their environment.
“Strong communities need a clean environment and that’s why the Brumby Labor Government supports Victorian communities through these awards in their efforts to keep their communities tidy.
“The Brumby Labor Government sees these awards as a positive way to promote the great work being done across the state, which is why they are now managed through Sustainability Victoria.
“The awards provide an opportunity for all levels of the community – local Councils and Shires, local community and sporting groups, schools and even individuals to have their efforts in improving, maintaining and sustaining their local environments recognised.”
Ms Broad said the Tidy Towns – Sustainable Communities award is for regional Victorian communities, the Sustainable Cities award is for metropolitan Melbourne Councils and satellite cities and Clean Beaches award is for beachside communities.
“Community efforts recognised by the awards include reducing waste, preserving heritage, saving energy and water conservation initiatives,” Ms Broad said.
“Entering the Keep Australia Beautiful Victoria Awards is as easy as visiting the Sustainability Victoria website and filling out the simple application form.”
