TAC Community Grants Boost Local Road Safety Efforts In Peechelba

Posted
31 March 2010

The Peechelba District Community Development Group has been given a $11,500 grant to tackle road trauma in the community, Member for Northern Victoria Region, Candy Broad announced today.

“Community organisations are often best placed to identify opportunities to reduce road trauma in their neighbourhoods,” Ms Broad said..
“I am thrilled that the TAC will provide support to the Peechelba District Community Development Group to help tackle road trauma.”

Awarded under Round 6 of the Transport Accident Commission’s (TAC) Community Road Safety Grants, the grant will assist the Peechelba District Community Development Group’s School Bus Stop Egress Path and Bike Shelter project.

With the support of local Council, a safer walking and cycling track for children who access the newly built bus stop, will be constructed. The children currently need to walk/ride on a section of a 100km/h road to access the bus stop.
“This project will help our area became safer and I congratulate Peechelba District Community Development Group on their successful application,” Ms Broad said.

Twenty projects around Victoria will be funded under Round 6 of the TAC’s Community Road Safety Grants program.

In six rounds of funding, more than $2.1 million has been committed to community road safety projects across Victoria, from inner-Melbourne suburbs to rural Victorian towns.

The TAC encourages community groups including local councils to prepare applications for projects that target a specific local road safety problem.

Funding is available for community-based projects conducted by not-for-profit groups that identify a problem and provide a solution.

The next round of applications will be accepted up until 6 August 2010.

Grant application guidelines are available at www.tacsafety.com.au or by contacting the TAC Community Road Safety Grants Officer on (03) 5225 6954.
