$500,000 For Shepparton Showgrounds Cattle Pavilion

Posted
18 March 2010

Shepparton will have a new $1.75 million multi-use cattle pavilion capable of hosting exhibits as well as agricultural events thanks to a $500,000 grant from the Brumby Labor Government.

Regional and Rural Development Minister Jacinta Allan said the government was committed to supporting the ongoing redevelopment of Shepparton Showgrounds to become a venue capable of hosting world-class events.

“The new multi-use cattle pavilion will result in the development of one of region’s most flexible and practical large display venues,” Ms Allan said

“The Goulburn Valley will be well serviced by the venue which means Shepparton businesses can expect to play host to more patrons attending events at the new pavilion.

“It will also support the annual Shepparton Show, which attracted almost 13,000 visitors in 2008.

“The complex will be one of many spectacular facilities developed by Greater Shepparton Council such as Tatura Park, Shepparton Sporting Precinct, the Aquamoves aquatic centre and the Eastbank and Westside complexes.”

Ms Allan said the project would include:

 a new multi-use pavilion to replace the existing Jack Wall, Phillips and Northern cattle pavilions and the T R Trewin goat pavilion;

 a clear-span building of approximately 100 by 25 metres with a minimum height clearance of six metres; and

 a canopy will run the full length of the western side of the building to provide a sheltered pedestrian promenade.

Ms Allan said the project would create 45 local jobs during the first year of construction and 18 jobs in the second year.

“The flow on benefits from tourism should also generate new job opportunities in the region too,” she said.

Ms Allan said the $500,000 grant would be provided to the City of Greater Shepparton from the Regional Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF).

“The RIDF has already committed almost $3.31 million towards the redevelopment of the showgrounds and has successfully leveraged funding to deliver much-needed infrastructure projects right across Victoria,” she said.

“The fund has committed more than $541 million in regional Victoria towards 343 projects worth more than $1.4 billion.”
