Local early childhood teacher, Helen Breatherton from the Mansfield Kindergarten is a finalist for the Victorian Teachers Credit Union Outstanding Early Childhood Teachers Award at the Victorian Education Excellence Awards.
Helen is among three finalists selected from many nominations submitted from across the state.
The winner will be announced by Early Childhood Minister, Maxine Morand and Education Minister, Bronwyn Pike at the awards ceremony at Crown Palladium, tomorrow Friday May 14.
The Outstanding Early Childhood Teachers Award recognises exemplary teaching practice and significant contributions to the development and delivery of quality early childhood education programs.
Member for Northern Victoria Region, Candy Broad congratulated Helen on her nomination.
“The Victorian Education Excellence Awards recognise the passion and expertise of outstanding school and kindergarten staff like Helen who think outside the square to help Victoria’s children thrive,” Ms Broad said.
“We are living in the knowledge age, and it is teachers like Helen who are inspiring children of all ages and backgrounds to embrace new concepts, new technologies and new ways of thinking,” Ms Broad said.
The winner of the Outstanding Early Childhood Teachers Award will receive:
- The opportunity for the recipient to identify and undertake professional learning to address an identified need that will result in improved student outcomes.
- $10,000 to be used to cover conference or seminar costs, travel, accommodation and casual replacement costs to undertake the professional learning activity.
- One year’s free membership with the Australian College of Educators and a further two years membership at a reduced rate (half cost).
