New Home For Warracknabeal's Favourite House

Posted
17 June 2010

Member for Northern Victoria Region, Candy Broad today officially opened the new Warracknabeal Neighbourhood House and Learning Centre.

Ms Broad said the new house would create more opportunities for people to connect with the community.

"The Brumby Labor Government was pleased to invest $30,000 from the Modernising Neighbourhood House Program (MNHP) to relocate the Neighbourhood House to a bigger site. Which will mean services can be expanded for the community," Ms Broad said.

"The relocation to the former Landt Hostel site has created a fully accessible community hub for people of all ages.

"The new kitchen and café area will also mean the popular 'cooking on a budget' course, accredited food safety qualification and other job-related training will be safer and more comfortable for all participants.

"The Take-A-Break sessions for young families, computer classes, and accredited training courses can be expanded into more comfortable surrounds and the Craft Club and Writers' Group have already been enjoying the extra space."

Ms Broad said the new House would meet the changing needs of the community and provide the facilities to meet the challenges of an ageing population in the 21st Century.

Local Government Minister, Richard Wynne said the relocation was a fantastic example of partnerships between the Brumby Labor Government and community organisations.

"By investing in community facilities, we are helping to reduce disadvantage through bringing people together to build strong social networks," Mr Wynne said.

"I'd like to congratulate Rural Northwest Health as well as the Warracknabeal Neighbourhood House and Learning Centre Committee of Management, volunteers and staff for their continued support for local people through this project."

The MNHP grants have seen an investment of $12.5 million since 2006 to help upgrade, redevelop or improve existing facilities to deliver the best results for local people.
