Almost 250 teachers that share more than 10,000 years of combined service have been recognised for their outstanding commitment to Government education at the recent Victorian Education Service Awards.
Education Minister Bronwyn Pike presented the awards to long-serving school teachers from across the state, who have dedicated 50, 45 and 40 years to Government education.
Ms Pike said the awards were an important part of the Brumby Labor Government’s commitment to recognising and rewarding Victoria’s hardworking and dedicated teachers.
“The Victorian Education Service Awards recognise our longest serving teachers who dedicate a big portion of their lives to ensuring our children learn, thrive and grow in school,” Ms Pike said.
“When many of the teachers sat in the classroom as a student years ago – it would have been hard to imagine they’d spend most of the rest of their lives standing at the front of one.
“Long-serving school teachers are stalwarts of our local communities and play a vital role in Victoria’s dynamic education system.”
Ms Pike said three teachers recognised for 50 years service at Victorian Government schools – Marlene Bingham from Mansfield Primary School, Geraldine Moloney from McKinnon Secondary College and Ken Harvey from Mount Beauty Secondary College deserved a special tribute.
“50 years of teaching is an extraordinary achievement and a commitment that requires absolute dedication to the profession.
“To have just three teachers that have collectively taught Victorian students for 150 years is a remarkable achievement.
“I thank Marlene, Geraldine and Ken for their dedicated commitment to Government school education in Victoria.”
