A new innovative training course for people seeking a career in the personal care industry was launched in Bendigo today by Skills and Workforce Participation Minister Bronwyn Pike.
Visiting Continuing Education Bendigo as part of the Brumby Labor Government's Bendigo Region Community Cabinet, Ms Pike encouraged people looking for a job to consider applying for a place in the One for Care course.
“Through the One for Care program, people who rely on the help of carers will now have a single person looking after their needs, instead of three different people,” Ms Pike said.
“The program will provide three distinct qualifications in one course.
“Students will graduate with a Certificate III in Home and Community Care, units in Disability Care and Aged Care, and guaranteed employment with care provider Care Beyond Measure.
“The Brumby Labor Government is pleased to provide funding and support for this great program in partnership with Continuing Education Bendigo and local business, Care Beyond Measure.
“Graduating students will be highly skilled and able to expertly manage the complex needs of local people who want to live independently.
“I encourage anyone interested in the course, or the fast-growing care industry to contact Continuing Education Bendigo to find out more about how they can gain the skills and qualifications necessary to make a real difference to their life and the lives of others.”
The Brumby Labor Government, through the Adult, Community and Further Education Board, is contributing funding toward the cost of the Certificate III in Home and Community Care component as part of the One for Care course.
Ms Pike said the partnership was a great example of the strength of the Adult Community Education (ACE) sector in Victoria.
“The Victorian ACE sector is widely regarded as the best in Australia,” Ms Pike said.
“As an employer of more than 8,000 Victorians, the ACE sector provides education and training to improve the employment prospects of 110,000 people.
“It also gives learners and businesses the choice of obtaining their skills and qualifications in a local setting, such as the nine ACE providers here in Greater Bendigo.”
