Young Member Wanted For 2011 National Youth Week

Posted
29 June 2010

Young Victorians with a passion for celebrating the contributions of young people are urged to apply for the volunteer position of Victoria’s young member for National Youth Week 2011.

Youth Affairs Minister James Merlino said Victoria’s young member would have the dual role of planning National Youth Week 2011 celebrations and being a media spokesperson.

“A young Victorian is selected each year to represent Victoria on the National Youth Week planning group and encourage young Victorians to get involved in celebrations,” Mr Merlino said.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for a young Victorian to showcase their talents, build their skills and help create a buzz for next year’s National Youth Week.”

National Youth Week is the largest celebration of young people in Australia, with thousands of young people aged 12-25 all across the country involved each year.

It encourages young people to share ideas, attend live events, have their voices heard on issues of concern to them, showcase their talents and celebrate their contribution to the community.

“National Youth Week is the one time of year where the whole of the nation comes together to celebrate our young people – it’s a chance for all young Australians to get involved, have a say and celebrate the fantastic things they do for their communities,” Mr Merlino said.

“We have so many skilled and talented young Victorians, I’m sure we’ll have a tough time selecting just one to represent Victoria.”

Mr Merlino said the Victorian young member would travel interstate to participate in the national planning group and contribute to national marketing strategies and program development.

“We’re looking for a young Victorian to step up to the challenge to help make the 2011 celebrations just as inspiring,” he said.

Young people who would like to be considered as Victoria’s young member for National Youth Week 2011 should forward an expression of interest to the Department of Planning and Community Development’s Office for Youth By Friday, 9 July, 2010.
