Castlemaine VICSES Unit has received a new $250,000 heavy-rescue truck to help volunteers as they respond to road accidents and emergencies.
Emergency Services Minister Bob Cameron said the brand-new heavy-rescue vehicle will assist Castlemaine VICSES as it provides valuable support to the local area and other units in the region.
“The Brumby Labor Government continues taking action supporting our emergency services, and this state-of-the-art truck will make Castlemaine VICSES members’ task easier, especially as they respond to road emergencies,” Mr Cameron said.
The 10.4-tonne heavy-rescue truck replaces a seven-tonne medium rescue vehicle, and features increased storage, improved manoeuvrability and room for up to seven volunteers.
“Castlemaine VICSES has 34 dedicated volunteer members who primarily respond to road accidents and calls for assistance to help clean up storm damage,” Mr Cameron said
“Unit Controller Bob Pratt and his fellow volunteers do a tremendous job in the community, responding to an average of 150 calls for assistance each year.
“They are there when people need them. We pay tribute to their dedication.”
