Supporting Farmers To Make Informed Decisions

Posted
1 July 2010

The Brumby Labor Government will provide more than $370,000 to support farmers in northern Victoria make informed decisions about their future.

Agriculture Minister Joe Helper said the Farm Decision Support Grants Program had provided grants of up to $50,000 to eight service providers to assist northern Victorian farmers who have been adversely affected by drought.

“The Farm Decision Support Grants program is another example of the Brumby Labor Government working to deliver information and services to farmers who are making decisions about their future in the industry,” Mr Helper said.

“Some of the practical ways these grants will help farmers include supporting service providers to develop business tools, run workshops and assist with exploring of other business options.”

Mr Helper said one of the grant recipients, Diggerland Community Services, would offer an innovative program to support growers in the Sunraysia region through mentoring.

“Another grant recipient is Murray Dairy who will deliver workshops addressing financial skills and decision making,” he said.

The Farm Decision Support Grants program is one part of the Brumby Labor Government’s $47 million drought assistance package announced in 2009.

Since 2006, the Government has provided more than $400 million in drought assistance and initiatives to support Victoria’s drought-affected farming families and farming communities.
