Finalists Revealed For ACE Education Awards

Posted
25 August 2010

The best people and organisations in adult education were revealed today when Skills and Workforce Participation Minister Bronwyn Pike announced the finalists of the 2010 Adult Community Education (ACE) Awards.

Ms Pike today congratulated the finalists in the six award categories and said the nominations reflected the success of ACE in regional and metropolitan Victoria.

“The 2010 ACE Awards shine a spotlight on the success of people and organisations that make a huge difference to Victoria,” Ms Pike said.

“These awards highlight the contribution of ACE to our economy and to local communities.

“From training programs that provide practical skills to Indigenous communities, to highly skilled teachers and motivated learners on the urban fringe, the awards recognise that ACE provides flexible, community-based learning of all types to all people.

“Choosing the 18 finalists was a difficult task, with so many great people and organisations involved in ACE in Victoria.”

Ms Pike said Victoria’s 340 ACE providers delivered training to more than 110,000 people each year and had a strong history of offering opportunities to those with little education experience.

“ACE plays a crucial role in Victoria’s education and training system by providing learning opportunities to people of all backgrounds so that everyone has the opportunity to contribute to our economic and social prosperity,” Ms Pike said.

“The Brumby Labor Government wants all Victorians to be able to choose to develop skills, gain qualifications and extend their employment and further education options at their local community education provider.

“Our government supports the future of ACE and has invested $15.4 million in the sector so even more people can enjoy the benefits of ACE.”

The ACE Award winners will be announced at a gala event on 8 September.
