Victorian Seniors Card holders can now book their free travel for the 29th Victorian Seniors Festival.
Minister for Seniors Victorians Lisa Neville today encouraged all seniors to take advantage of the opportunity to get out to festival events.
“We know how important it is for seniors to live an active and healthy life and that is why we are proud to be running a festival that celebrates the contribution older Victorians make to our community,” Ms Neville said.
“In its 29th year, this year’s festival program offers everything from fine art to golf tournaments and with free transport to get there, there’s no excuse not to hop on the nearest train, bus or tram – just remember to take your Seniors Card with you.
“Whether you live in the city or in the country, it is a great opportunity to enjoy some of the more than 1,000 free or low cost festival events across Victoria.”
During the Festival week that runs from Sunday 3 October to Sunday 10 October, Seniors Card holders will enjoy eight days of free transport on all metropolitan train, tram and bus services and all regional town bus services.
Free V-Line rail and coach services will also be available from Tuesday 5 October to Sunday 10 October except for Friday 8 October.
Bookings are required for some services and can be made by calling 136 196 or visiting www.viclink.com.au.
Ms Neville said the free transport was very popular during the 2009 festival with over 200,000 seniors taking advantage of the offer and advised seniors to plan their travel times for the upcoming festival.
“I encourage seniors planning on taking advantage of the free transport on V-Line services to book early for reserved services as demand on some services can be very high,” she said.
“Eligible seniors who do not already have a Seniors Card are encourages to apply for one. They are simple to get and best of all, they are free.”
