Baillieu-Ryan Government Provides Words Not Actions For Seymour Hospital

26 May 2011

The Baillieu-Ryan Government has continued to let down the people of Seymour by not delivering $2 million as promised to fund new chemotherapy chairs at Seymour District Memorial Hospital, Member for Northern Victoria Region, Candy Broad said today.

Under questioning in Question Time at State Parliament today, Minister for Health, David Davis conceded that there was no money in the Baillieu-Ryan Budget to fund this project.

“Today in question time I called on the Minister to explain his reasons for providing words instead of funding for new chemotherapy chairs at Seymour Hospital as promised,” Ms Broad said.

“This follows on from my visit to Seymour last week with Opposition Leader, Daniel Andrews, where we called on the Baillieu-Ryan Government to deliver the $2 million as promised.”

“This funding would enable cancer patients in the region to get treatment they need closer to home, rather than having to travel far and wide,” Ms Broad said.

“Today I also called on the Minister to visit Seymour Hospital to explain to hospital staff and patients why the Baillieu-Ryan Government has not delivered funding for new chemotherapy chairs, and he has agreed to visit Seymour Hospital.”

Ms Broad said that it is important that the people of Seymour have the opportunity to persuade the Minister to change his mind about providing funding for new chemotherapy chairs at Seymour Hospital at the earliest opportunity.

“The Baillieu-Ryan Government needs to match their words about supporting growth in regional cities and country communities by improving services and facilities with actions,” Ms Broad said.

“It is one thing to say you support country communities, but this needs to be followed up by action, and if you are not going to fund key projects, like right here at Seymour Hospital, then people feel let down.”

“I will continue to fight for the Seymour community to get the health services it needs from the Baillieu-Ryan Government.”
