Government No-Show Angers Parents Keen To Take-A-Break

Posted
30 June 2011

The Baillieu Government has continued to dodge responsibility for axing the popular occasional childcare program, Take-a-Break, Shadow Minister Assisting the Leader on Children and Young Adults, Jenny Mikakos said today.

“As the fallout continues following their decision to cut Take-a-Break funding across Victoria, the Baillieu Government is still failing to take responsibility,” she said.

Ms Mikakos said not a single member of the Baillieu Government bothered to meet a group of concerned parents and childcare workers at today’s rally at Parliament House.

“The facts are clear – Mr Baillieu has axed Take-a-Break, causing great distress for families and childcare workers across the state, particularly given the former Labor Government funded it entirely.”

“Ms Lovell needs to stop blaming everyone else, step up and take responsibility for the distress she has caused,” Ms Mikakos said.

“Today no-one from the Baillieu Government bothered to show up at the rally and explain why they were axing the program.

“These hardworking parents simply want funding by the Baillieu Government reinstated so Take-a-Break to continue.

“However, like the no-show at the rally today, the Baillieu Government is simply not engaging.

“It is clear the Baillieu Government doesn’t understand the needs of Victorian families who are sick of the finger pointing and evasive tactics of the Baillieu Government.”
